Neville Brothers, the

US rhythm-and-blues group, exponents of the New Orleans style, internationally successful from the 1980s. There are four Neville brothers, the eldest of whom has been active from the 1950s in various musical ventures. Albums include Yellow Moon (1989).

Aaron Neville (1941– ) had hits as a vocalist in the 1960s, for example ‘Tell It Like It Is’ (1966). Two of the brothers – Art (1938– ) and Cyril (1950– ) – were in the Meters, a critically acclaimed group formed in the late 1960s, whose albums include The Wild Tschoupitoulas (1976). The Neville Brothers line-up comprising all four brothers, plus other musicians, was formed 1978.
