New Music

Term invented to describe the atonal and serial music of the Second Viennese School (Arnold Schoenberg, Alban Berg, and Anton Webern) and their followers. The term is used by Webern in the title of his autobiographical manifesto, The Path to the New Music, and especially by the critics Theodor Adorno and Carl Dahlhaus.
