New Romney

Town in the Romney Marsh area of Kent, southeast England, formed by the amalgamation of Romney with Littlestone on Sea and Greatstone on Sea; population (2001) 6,950. Romney was one of the original Cinque Ports, but its harbour was destroyed by a storm in the 13th century which diverted the course of the River Rother; the town is now more than 2 km/1 mi from the sea.

The medieval wealth of the town is reflected by the Norman church of St Nicholas.
