Newell, Frederick Haynes

Newell, Frederick Haynes (1862-1932)

US civil engineer. Appointed hydrographer to the US Geological Survey in 1888, he helped prepare bills including the Reclamation Act of 1902 and became director of the Reclamation Service (1907-14). He later consulted on numerous natural resource projects and wrote on the subject. Newell was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania.
