Newman, Randy Gary

    0.04 sec.

Newman, Randy Gary (1944– )

US pop singer, songwriter, and pianist. His mordantly satirical songs have earned him a cult following and occasionally, as with the single ‘Short People’ from the album Little Criminals (1977), mass appeal. Later albums include Land of Dreams (1988).

The nephew of the film composer Alfred Newman, he has written the soundtracks to several films, including The Three Amigos (1986), Toy Story (1995), A Bug's Life (1998), Meet the Parents (2000), and Monsters, Inc (2001; Academy Award for best song for ‘If I Didn't Have You’).

Born in Louisiana, he devoted an album (Good Old Boys 1974) to controversial governor Huey Long.
