Newsom, John

    0.01 sec.

Newsom, John (Hubert) (born 1910)

British educationalist. He was county education officer for Hertfordshire 1940–57, deputy chair of the Central Advisory Council for Education (England) in 1963, and chair of the Public Schools Commission in 1965.

The Commission produced a detailed report, published in 1968, on how independent boarding schools could best be integrated with the state system of education. Its recommendations were not adopted by the Labour government of the day, chiefly because of their cost.
