Newtongrange

Town in Midlothian unitary authority, Scotland, 3 km/2 mi south of Dalkeith; population (2001) 5,200. Local industries include the manufacture of bricks and tiles, and paper production. Newtongrange is a former coalmining centre. Its Lady Victoria Colliery was one of the largest in Scotland, but is now the home of the Scottish Mining Museum.

Newbattle Abbey lies in the vicinity. It was founded by the Cistercians in 1140, and is now an adult education college.
