Newton Stewart

Market town and former burgh in Dumfries and Galloway unitary authority, Scotland, situated on the River Cree, 10 km/6 mi northwest of Wigtown; population (2001) 3,600. It is one of the main cattle-trading venues of the area. The town is a centre for salmon and trout fishing in the River Cree.
