ngoni

Plucked lute of the Manding peoples of West Africa. Commonly found with three strings, the ngoni is played exclusively by men from the professional musicians' caste and is used to accompany praise-singing and historical narrative.

Tonight's line-up includes Basement Jaxx and Yoko Ono performing together, Malian musician Bassekou Kouyate and his band Ngoni Ba and White Stripes frontman Jack White's new group the Dead Weather.
Starting with Africa - Mali to be precise -the musician is Bassekou Kouyate and his chosen instrument is the ngoni which visually resembles a hollow, long-handled cricket bat.
Jack White appears with new group Dead Weather, and Malian musician Bassekou Kouyate and his band Ngoni Ba will also be dropping in.
