Lindsay

Town and administrative headquarters of Victoria County, southeastern Ontario, Canada, on the Scugog River, 96 km/60 mi northeast of Toronto; population (1991) 16,700. It is a gateway to the Kawartha Lakes recreational area, with lumbering, agriculture, and light industry also contributing to the economy.

The town was laid out in 1825. In 1844 a lock was built on the Scugog, but it was the development of the Trent Canal in 1853, linking Sturgeon Lake with Lake Scugog, that brought real growth.
