Nicholson, William Newzam Prior (1872–1949)

English artist. He painted landscapes, portraits, and still lifes. Under the name ‘The Beggarstaff Brothers’, he also developed the art of poster design in partnership with his brother-in-law, James Pryde, their simplified cut-paper designs being noted for their striking simplicity. He was the father of the artist Ben Nicholson.
