Nicklaus, Jack William (1940- )US golfer, nicknamed ‘the Golden Bear’ and widely regarded as the game's greatest ever player. He won a record 18 major titles between 1962 and 1986, and finished second on a record 19 occasions. In 1999, the US magazine Sports Illustrated named him ‘Best Individual Male Athlete of the 20th Century’. He played his last major championship in 2005.
