Nicolai, Christoph Friedrich (1733–1811)| German author and bookseller. With his friend Gotthold Lessing he established the journal Briefe, die neueste Literatur betreffend 1759–65. His works include Beschreibung einer Reise durch Deutschland und die Schweiz 1783–97, Anekdoten von Friedrich II 1788–92, and a rationalistic novel, Sebaldus Nothanker 1773–76. For 27 years he edited the anti-Romantic Allgemeine deutsche Bibliothek. |
