Nicollier, Claude (1944– )

Swiss astronaut with the European Space Agency (ESA). His four space shuttle flights include two missions to service the Hubble Space Telescope, on Endeavour in December 1993 and on Discovery in December 1999. He has logged more than 1,000 hours in space with one space walk of eight hours. Nicollier joined the ESA as a research-scientist in 1976. He was selected a member of the first group of European astronauts in 1978 for training at NASA's Johnson Space Center in 1980.
