Nikolayeva, Tatiana (1924–1993)

Russian pianist and composer. He studied in Moscow and taught at the Conservatory from 1959. He won first prize at the 1950 Leipzig Bach Festival, and in the following year premiered the 24 Preludes and Fugues by Shostakovich. He made his UK debut in Leeds in 1984; after his first appearance in London in 1986, he returned to play Bach's Goldberg Variations and The Art of Fugue. His compositions include two piano concertos and a piano quintet.
