Nilgiri Hills

Steep-sided plateau in the west of Tamil Nadu state, southeast India, at the southern end of the Western Ghats, generally about 1,900 m/6,200 ft high. The highest peak is Doda Betta (2,669 m/8,750 ft). Tea and coffee are grown, as well as cinchona trees, from which quinine is produced. The area is a popular hot-weather resort.
