Nimba

Mining town in northern Liberia, near the border with Guinea. The town is the administrative centre of Nimba County and is linked to the port of Buchanan by railway. Iron ore is the main mining product and forms the major generator of foreign exchange for the Liberian economy. Nimba also possesses iron-ore pelletizing plants. Paddy-rice, coffee, and cocoa are grown locally, although recent attempts to cultivate tobacco have proved unsuccessful.
