Nina, o sia la pazza per amore

Opera by Paisiello (libretto by Giuseppe Carpani, with additions by G B Lorenzi, based on the French libretto by B J Marsollier). It was first produced in Naples at the Caserta Palace, for the visit of Queen Maria Carolina of Sicily on 25 June 1789. Its first public performance was at the Teatro Fiorentino in Naples in 1790. In the story, Nina is engaged to Lindoro, but her father cancels the wedding plans when a rich suitor arrives. Lindoro fights a duel with him and is shot. Nina goes mad, but recovers her sanity when he revives.
