Niskayuna

Town in Schenectady County, eastern New York State, on the Mohawk River, just east of Schenectady; population (1990) 19,000.

Niskayuna was the site, in 1776, of the first upstate settlement of Mother Ann Lee and her small band of Shakers. Though primarily a residential suburb, it is also home to a variety of industries. General Electric has nuclear power research facilities here along the Mohawk.
