Olympus Mons

Volcano in the Tharsis region of Mars, 600 km/375 mi in diameter and rising 24 km/15 mi above the surrounding plains. The caldera at the summit is 70 km/44 mi across and contains a complex of smaller craters. Olympus Mons is believed to have been extinct for several hundred million years. It is one of several large volcanoes in the Tharsis region, and is the largest known volcano in the Solar System.
