Nochlin, Linda (1931- )

US art historian. She specialized in painting and sculpture of the 19th and 20th centuries, and was one of the first scholars to define feminist issues in 19th-century painting.

Nochlin was born in New York, New York. She studied at Vassar (BA 1951), Columbia University (MA 1952), and New York University (NYU) (PhD 1963). She taught art at Vassar (1952-80), City University of New York (1980-90), Yale (1990), and at NYU's Institute of Fine Arts (1992).
