Nock, Arthur Darby

Nock, Arthur Darby (1902–1963)

English-born classicist. He is best remembered for his books Conversion (1933), Saint Paul (1938), and many articles on ancient religion. He was editor of the Oxford Classical Dictionary (1949) and a contributor to the Cambridge Ancient History.

Nock was born in Portsmouth, England. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1922; MA 1926) and the University of Birmingham (LLD 1934). He taught at Harvard (1929–63) and became an American citizen in 1936.
