Nogay| Member of a Turkic-speaking people living in the northern Dagestan and Karachay-Cherkessian republics of the northern Caucasus, Russia. They are Sunni Muslims and mostly engaged in sheep-rearing. They formed part of the Golden Horde, and in the 14th century formed a separate Nogay Horde, which later disbanded. They submitted voluntarily to Russia between the 16th and 18th centuries. |
