Ryan, (Lynn) Nolan (1947– )

US baseball pitcher. Baseball's all-time leader in strikeouts with 5,714, Ryan won more than 300 games in his record 28 major league seasons with the New York Mets (1966–72), the California Angels (1972–79), the Houston Astros (1979–88), and the Texas Rangers (1988–93). He is credited with being the fastest pitcher of all time, with speeds of over 100 mph/160 kph clocked in August 1974. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in January 1999.
