Nootka Sound

Harbour on the Pacific coast of Canada, lying behind Nootka Island on the west coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. Nootka Sound, Barclay Sound on the southwest coast of Vancouver, and Quatseenough Sound on the northwest coast all have inlets into the heart of Vancouver Island.

Captain James Cook landed here 1778 and a trading post was established here by John Meares, a British explorer, 1788. The site was briefly occupied by the Spanish.
