Norgård, Per (1932– )

Danish composer. He studied with Vagn Holmboe (1909–1996) and Nadia Boulanger (1887–1979), and taught at Aarhus in Denmark from 1965. An early influence was Sibelius. Norgård later turned to ‘infinite’ serialism, pointillism, and graphic notation.

The Labyrinth (1967), Gilgamesh (1973), Siddharta (1983), The Divine Tivoli (1983).

Orchestral

four symphonies (1954–81); Illuminationi for orchestra (1984); cello concerto (1985), violin concerto Helle Nacht (1987); Pastorale for strings (1988).

Ensemble

Spaces of Time for piano and ensemble (1991), Scintillation for instruments (1993), seven string quartets (1958–93).
