Norman, Barry Leslie (1933– )

English journalist and broadcaster. A specialist in the world of show business, he made his name as an influential film critic presenting the majority of the annual Film television series, commencing with Film 73. His documentaries include The Hollywood Greats (1977–79, 1984–85) and Talking Pictures (1988). In 1981 he received the BAFTA Richard Dimbleby award.

His publications include The Matter of Mandrake (1967), The Birddog Tape (1992), 100 Best Films (1992), and The Mickey Mouse Affair (1995).

Norman was born in London, the son of film director Leslie Norman (1914–93). He worked for various newspapers before turning to radio arts and entertainment programmes such as Today (1974–76), Going Places (1977–81), and Breakaway (1979–80).
