Norris, William C (1911–2006)

US computer engineer and entrepreneur. He helped found Engineering Research Associates in St Paul, Minnesota (late 1940s), which merged with Sperry Rand. He headed Sperry Rand's Univac Division until 1957, when he founded Control Data Corporation in Minneapolis; he retired as its chairman and CEO in 1986. He also became an advocate of government/business cooperation, job creation, efficiency, and technological innovation. Norris was born in Red Cloud, Nebraska.
