North Canadian River

River in New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma; length 1,300 km/800 mi. Following a course roughly parallel to the larger Canadian River, it has a number of dams and reservoirs along its route and on its tributaries.

The North Canadian River rises in the High Plains area of Union County, northeastern New Mexico, and follows a generally easterly course through the Panhandle of Oklahoma (where it is known as the Beaver). Dipping briefly into the far north of Texas, it turns southeast through Oklahoma, passing Woodward and El Reno, and then runs through the centre of Oklahoma City. Finally, after passing Shawnee, it joins the Canadian River in Eufaula Lake.
