North Kingstown

North Kingstown

Town in Washington County, south-central Rhode Island, on the western side of Narragansett Bay; population (1990) 23,800.

Settled in 1641, North Kingstown was incorporated in 1674 and separated from South Kingstown in 1722. Its villages include Saunderstown, Hamilton, Allenton, Wickford, and Lafayette. There is heavy industry at Quonset Point. The town's economy also relies on commerce, light industry, fishing, and tourism.
