North Plainfield

Borough in Somerset County, northeastern New Jersey, 14 km/9 mi north of New Brunswick; population (1990) 18,800.

North Plainfield was settled in 1736, and its growth was stimulated by the opening of quarries and mills in the environs. Today it is essentially residential, with a variety of industrial enterprises.
