North Providence

Town in Providence County, northeastern Rhode Island, northwest of Providence; population (1990) 32,100. Formerly an important centre of textile manufacture, it still produces some textiles, together with jewellery, food products, chemicals, machinery, and timber. A large section of Rhode Island College is located in this suburban town.
