North Reading

Town in Middlesex County, northeastern Massachusetts,on the Ipswich River, 24 km/15 mi north of Boston, and immediately northwest of Peabody and Danvers ; population (1998 est) 12,600. It was settled in 1651, as part of Reading, and incorporated in 1853. It is a residential suburb of Boston.

North Reading was an agricultural area with saw mills, which also manufactured boots and shoes, but this industry did not survive the Civil War.
