Northampton, William Parr (1513–1571)

English noble, brother of Catherine Parr, the sixth wife of Henry VIII. During the reign of Edward VI he supported the causes of the Duke of Somerset and the Duke of Northumberland. On the death of Edward VI he supported the accession of Lady Jane Grey, for which he forfeited his titles and estates under Mary I. He returned to favour on the accession of Elizabeth I.

He was created Earl of Essex in 1543 and Marquess of Northampton in 1547, and created Marquess for the second time in 1559.
