Northampton County

Administrative district of eastern Pennsylvania; area 974 sq km/376 sq mi, population (1990) 247,100. The county is bordered on the east by the Delaware River, on the west by the Lehigh River, and on the north by Blue and Kittatinny mountain ranges. Its seat is at Easton.

Northampton County is home to much industry, especially in Easton, Bethlehem, and Nazareth. Outside these conurbations, there is both suburban development and farmland. In the north, the county extends into the resort area around Pocono Mountain and the Delaware Water Gap.
