Northborough

Town in Worcester County, central Massachusetts, 14 km/9 mi east-northeast Worcester; population (2000 est) 6,300. It provides rural homes for Boston and Worcester commuters, and the major industry is electronics.

Originally part of Sudbury, the area spilt off as Marlborrow (or Marlborough) in 1656, split again in 1717 as Westborough, and was finally incorporated as Northborough in 1766. Grist and saw mills were founded on the Assabet River, followed by iron and brick works.
