Northfleet

Town in north Kent, England; population (2001) 13,700. Local chalk and clay was used in developing the Thameside cement industry here, and the cement industry is still significant. Many riverside pits remain, although recent workings are inland and clay is brought from Essex. Other industries include paper production, chemicals, and electricity generation.
