Northumberland County

Administrative district of east-central Pennsylvania; area 974 sq km/376 sq mi, population (1990) 96,771. The county in bordered on the west by the Susquehanna River, and has its seat at Sunbury. Situated in the Appalachian Mountains, the region's economy relies heavily on coalmining and agriculture.
