Northumberland Strait| Strait in eastern Canada; length 210 km/130 mi, width 15–50 km/9–31 mi. The southwestern arm of the Gulf of St Lawrence, it separates Prince Edward Island from east New Brunswick and north Nova Scotia. The shallow channel has strong tidal currents and important shellfish and lobster industries. With the warmest waters in eastern Canada, the area attracts tourists to beaches along its shore. |
| Kouchibouguac National Park (238 sq km/92 sq mi), in east New Brunswick, at the strait's northwest end, has forests, saltmarshes, lagoons, sand dunes, bike and hiking trails, wild orchids, and the endangered piping plover. |
