Norway House

Indian reserve in central Manitoba, on Little Playgreen Lake (the Nelson River), northeast of Lake Winnipeg; population (1991) 2,800. In the 18th and 19th centuries, Norway House was a major trading post for the Hudson's Bay Company's fur trade with the Cree and Assiniboine peoples. About 500 non-American Indians live in this close-knit community.
