Notestein, Wallace (1878–1969)

US historian. He specialized in English history, and his studies of the history of the House of Commons have become standard works. They include The Winning of the Initiative by the House of Commons 1924.

Notestein was educated at Wooster and Yale universities. He was professor of English history at Cornell University 1920–28, and from 1928 to 1947 was professor of English history at Yale. He was visiting professor at Oxford 1949–50.

His publications include an edition of D'Ewes Journal of the Long Parliament 1923 and The English People on the Eve of Colonisation 1954.
