Notre-Dame

Opera by Franz Schmidt (libretto by composer and L Wilk, after Hugo's novel Notre-Dame de Paris). The opera was composed 1902–04 and was produced in Vienna on 1 April 1914. The well-known Intermezzo was performed in Vienna on 6 December 1903.

A few years ago, while visiting or, rather, rummaging about Notre-Dame, the author of this book found, in an obscure nook of one of the towers, the following word, engraved by hand upon the wall:--
