Notting Hill Carnival

Largest street festival in Europe, held in the Notting Hill area of London each August. Traditionally a celebration of the end of slavery in the West Indies, the Carnival began among the West Indian community in London in the early 1960s and today involves 70-100 bands in masquerade. Over one million people attend each year.
