Nováček, Ottokar (1866–1900)

Hungarian violinist and composer. In Leipzig he joined the string quartet of his teacher, Adolf Brodsky, first as second violinist and then as viola player. In 1892, he went to New York and became viola leader in the Damrosch Opera Company's orchestra. In 1899 he retired for reasons of health and took to composition.

He studied with his father, and later went to Vienna and Leipzig for further study.

piano concerto; Perpetuum mobile for violin and orchestra.

Chamber and other

three string quartets; eight caprices and other works for violin and piano; piano music; six songs to words by Tolstoy.
