Cantata by Hans Werner Henze for soloists, chorus, and orchestra (text by Giordano Bruno, the Italian astronomer burnt at the stake by the Inquisition). Composed in 1962, the cantata was first performed in Venice on 24 April 1963, with the vocal talents of Peter Pears, Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau, Meyer, and Söderström.
