Novoshakhtinsk

Town in the Rostov oblast (region) of the southwestern Russian Federation; population (1996 est) 106,000. Novoshakhtinsk is on the Rostov–Kharkov highway 60 km/37 mi northeast of Rostov-on-Don. It lies in the Donets Basin coalmining region, and has chemical industries producing coal derivatives.
