Novotný, Antonin (1904–1975)

Czech president 1957–68. He was a founder member of the Czech Communist Party in 1921 and worked in the underground movement during the German occupation of Czechoslovakia, imprisoned in concentration camps 1941–45. His resistance to reform caused his resignation from the presidency in 1968.
