Nozick, Robert

Nozick, Robert (1938–2002)

US political philosopher. He argued that the state's existence can be justified only when it is limited to the narrow function of protection against force, theft, and fraud, and to the enforcement of contracts. Any more extensive activities by the state will inevitably violate individual rights (see rights, natural). His main work is Anarchy, State and Utopia (1974).
