Ntsanwisi, Hudson William Edison (1920–1993)

South African politician, chief councillor of Gazankulu from 1969. An active Presbyterian, he has published a novel in Tsonga and written a series of Tsonga readers for primary schools.

The son of a migrant worker, Ntsanwisi made his way through mission schools and private studies, finally graduating from Fort Hare University. He started his own secondary school, and then joined the University of the North (Turfloop) as professor of Bantu languages. He was unanimously elected chief councillor for the legislative assembly in 1969.
