Nucci, Leo (1942- )

Italian baritone. He made his debut at Spoleto in 1967, as Rossini's Figaro (a role he repeated at La Scala, Milan in 1976). He sang Verdi's Miller in London from 1978 at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, where he returned in 1994 as Germont. From 1980 he sang in New York at the Metropolitan Opera House as Renato, Onegin, Posa, Amonasro, and Rigoletto. He appeared at the Salzburg Festival (1989-90) as Renato in Un ballo in maschero. He sang Iago in concert performances of Otello in Chicago and New York (1991); he has also made many recordings.
